FoGMs Christmas Market

The main hall and canteen were busy with the customers jostling to see the many items for sale including handcrafted items like jewellery, toys, cards, sweet treats, Christmas decorations, candles and local honey. In addition, there were the popular fund raisers like the Kyreece Foundation Tombola and various raffles.

Those mingling around the stalls in the canteen were drawn to the enticing aroma of the food for sale in the FoGMs café: hot turkey rolls with stuffing, cranberry sauce and brie; bacon rolls; and, of course, delicious mince pies.

From humble beginnings many years ago, the FoGMs Christmas Market has grown in popularity. It has become a destination for the community of parents, carers, pupils and locals looking for unique, affordable Christmas gifts as well as a joyous evening out, away from the bustling crowds of the high street. More than 200 attended this year and a huge thank you goes to everyone who helped make this event so successful.

The money raised is being used, in part, to improve the canteen area. FoGMs has at its heart the desire to make the school a wonderful place to be for the children. Raising the roof, the focus of previous years, has improved the outside seating arrangements to the benefit of all. The new focus aims to bring a face-lift to the canteen making it a place where pupils and staff alike can enjoy socialising while eating.

In part, the money raised will also be used to redecorate the hall. This school area is used for formal occasions like Celebration for Success, Sports Awards Evening and the Year 11 School Prom. Just as importantly, it is used for the FoGMs Year 7s’ Disco, Christmas Market, Comedy Evening and Quiz Night.

All parents and carers of GMS are automatically members. The committee welcomes new ideas for raising money and for all the help they are given on an event basis.
