London Zoo Offers Unique Colours, Shapes and Textures

The Technology Department at GMS took 55 excited Year 8 pupils to the famous     London Zoo this week.

The 1st October was chilly at 9.35, as the group of enthusiastic children gathered to clamber on the coaches. The weather warmed as they made their way to the capital city; but the children did not notice immersed as they were in their games and conversation.

Climbing off the coach the children spilled through great gates of London Zoo towards a great experience.

The animals, fish, birds and snakes challenged the all concerned to see the different colours, shapes and textures, most particularly in the diverse patterns on the skins and feathers of the creatures.

Cameras snapped as many photographs were taken to be used back in the classroom to create textile designs: Miss Agbozo awaits first class assessments as a result.

The pupils, who had been organised into groups, were eager to map read and choose a route for themselves around the paths. It required group cooperation and staff were thoroughly impressed with the negotiations that took place. One lucky group were in the right place and observed baby tiger cabs being fed and trained.

Before leaving the zoo, there was the compulsory trip to the shop. Both boys and girls bought mementoes: cuddly toys to remind them of the trip, and their favourite creature.

On time, the coaches arrived back at school at 2.50, in time for the pupils to catch their buses home.

GMS are proud of the pupils who behaved impeccably. The school thank the staff of London Zoo who were lovely with the children, and the school staff who gave their time last Wednesday to make the day so memorable.
