Art take Pupils to London

On Thursday 11th September, the Art Department took 48 Year 10 pupils to Borough Market and to the Tower of London to visit the Paul Cummins’s Poppy Installation. The pupils were being introduced to an installation displayed in an outside setting to aid their contextual research. What was seen was described as ‘inspiring’, ‘thought provoking’, and ‘vast’.

Following the visit to the Tower, the pupils were taken to Borough Market to observe and record food and drink as a basis to develop ideas back in the classroom. The market, close to London Bridge, was buzzing with vitality the day the school visited. As the pupils soaked up the atmosphere they were challenged to find and photograph examples of vibrant and exciting wears to support a chosen theme.  Students were reminded to pay close attention to colour, texture and subject matter.  The follow up work in the classroom will become the foundation of their coursework in Year 10.

The staff accompanying the pupils remarked on their exemplary behaviour.
