A-Level Celebration 2014

Students and staff at Great Marlow School are today celebrating another set of excellent A-level results, with students once again exceeding previous record breaking grades and going on to excellent jobs and universities.

In the large sixth form of this school another superb pass rate was achieved with over 95% of all examinations passed. In the measures A*-B and A*-C the school has surpassed its previous records, almost three quarters of students achieved A*-C grades.  Value added is once again strongly positive, indicating that in the Great Marlow Sixth Form students make better progress than the average from GCSE to A Level.

Headline Information:

• Great Marlow School students achieved a magnificent pass rate: over 95% in all examinations at Key Stage 5.
• AS results are the best set of results the school has achieved to date, which bodes very well for further improvements next year.
• A* – B grades are up by 8%.
• A* – C grades up by 14%.

Deputy Head, Kevin Ford, said, “It is a very special day because we see our sixth form come to fruition after two years of hard work. There are some very excited students here looking forward to the future.

“We are delighted with the results. The A2 scores are very good indeed while the AS levels are the best the school has ever had. We had a fantastic GCSE group last year and they are building on their success in A-level.

“All students and teachers are to be congratulated, for they have worked hand-in-hand to achieve results that are improving year on year in the sixth form.”

Outstanding individual performances are many, but listed below are the names of a few individuals and their grades:

• Abigail Pearse achieved  grade A* in Law, A* in Psychology and grade B in English Literature; she has a place at Cambridge to study Law.
• Natasha Evans achieved grade A in Government and Politics, grade A  in Law and grade B in History; she is going to the University of Exeter to study Politics and International Relations
• Bradley Thorne achieved grade A in Physics, grade B in Chemistry and grade C in Mathematics; he has planned  to have a gap year.
• Amy Piercey achieved grade A in Applied Business, grade B in English Literature and grdae B Sociology; she has planned to have a gap year.
• Deanna Westfold achieved grade A in Geography, grade B in Biology and Grade B in Drama; she is going to Plymouth University to study Marine Biology
• Aishling Hageman-Rowe achieved grade B in English Literature. grade B in History and grade C in Law; she is going to Reading University to study Law
• Abbey Merritt achieved grade B in Mathematics, B in Media Studies and grade C in Geography; she is going to Royal Holloway to study Human Geography
• Isabel Bott and Louise Finch achieved 3 straight A grades in the Diploma in Child Care in Education.
• Paige Darley, Katie Mulcuck and Charlie Wingrove each achieved 3 grade Bs in the same course.

GMS are due to begin work on building a new sixth form block in the autumn term, to accomodate the number of students who opt to study at the school. The new block will provide ‘first class’ facilities for Years 12 and 13. GMS believe this will attract even more students to this thriving and successful sixth form.
