Gold for Boys’ Eight for England

GMS Internationals win Gold for England. On Saturday 23rd July, the last event of this season’s rowing took place at the London Docklands, the Home International Regatta (HIR).

Our top boys’ pair of Henry Gavin and Hugo Loretto, were there because they had been selected to race in both the Pair Race and as part of the England Eight in the sprint event.

Emily Downing was also selected for the Welsh team in her Single; she rowed as part of the Welsh Junior Four.

In their Pairs’ Race, the boys performed very well but were outclassed by the Scottish crew who took a length lead in the first 500m and held this throughout, extending this slightly over the last half. The Welsh and Irish pairs were some 20 seconds behind. A strong result for the boys.

In the Eight, the 500m sprint was an exciting fast and furious race with ratings right up in the 40s. Our boys enjoyed having their revenge by taking Gold over the Scots, who came in second.

So, England won the Junior Match amongst the Home Nations.
