Eco-Schools Green Flag Award

Fantastic work everyone in GMS because together we have helped the Eco-Committee win the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag.

Following an in-depth review the committee praised the following:

• GMS’s large Eco-Committee, which shows the school’s excellent commitment to both the programme and the Eco-cause.
• Student participation in taking minutes, which develops new skills while promoting ownership of the Eco-Schools programme.
• The Environmental Review, founded on rich discussions, raised awareness of gaps in the school’s existing environmental activity while recognising the great work already underway.
• The Action Plan, which offered a far ranging  number of activities from litter picking to building hedgehog homes and documented accountability, monitoring and evaluation.
• The way environmental issues are linked to a wide variety of curriculum areas because climate change is tackled in a holistic way, leads to an understanding and appreciation of the enormity of the issue.
• How the Eco-Committee communicated through emails, assemblies and school website because this embedded the strong commitment of the school to the Eco programme long term.
• How the organisers have engaged with different projects and organisations, both locally and nationally, such as Solar for Schools, Wild Marlow, planting trees with the Woodland Trust because this collaborative approach makes the best of great ideas.
• GMS’s Eco-Code because it was brilliant and stunning to look at! It was punchy and really creative, setting out tangible and accessible calls to action that the whole school could get behind.
