Go Kart Competitor

Oliver Kerr is a student in Year 9, who currently races go-karts, with DSM Motorsport and regularly competes at British Karting Championship Level. Oliver has been racing for the last few years and often finishes in the top 10 within the UK.  This is a highly competitive intense level of racing and taken incredibly seriously by the participants. The go-karts reach amazing speeds of 70MPH. This standard of go-karting is where many professional racing drivers started their careers: current Formula 1 drivers Lando Norris and George Russell, who currently race for McLaren and Williams, both started their racing career in go-karts.

Oliver said that his biggest achievement to date was winning a race at British level. His achievements and the ability to compete at a British standard take huge levels of commitment and involves Oliver and his family attending race meetings nearly every weekend. To keep ahead of the competitors, Oliver spends hours every night on the race simulator that he has at home. Oliver explained that the racing takes enormous amounts of resilience and concentration, particularly during races when he starts further behind the race leaders. He says his determination and focus enable him to work his way past other drivers and further up the field of racers into one of the top 5 positions.
