Geog Squad Juniors

The “Geog Squad Juniors” meets every Wednesday in A10. Mrs Messenger, Mrs Wheeler and Hannah Brind (a Year 12 student) run this very creative lunch club.

The club was particularly creative when they decorated Mrs Wheeler’s classroom with a “Rainforest Wall”. This tied in with the Year 7 syllabus, but it is just one of many topics explored by the Geography Department.

In the summer term a Year 7 trip is planned to investigate the River Thames at the River Rowing Museum in Henley, which ties in nicely with what they are studying at the end of the year.

Geography is a diverse subject, which explains why it is so popular in GMS.

With Year 8 the department is currently teaching the different diseases that affect peoples around the world.

With Year 9 the topic is “Impossible Places” an intriguing title that investigates whether places should really exist where they do -Dubai, Las Vegas and Chernobyl.

The children are encouraged to question, investigate and form opinions. The weather patterns are explored, making geography a live subject.

GMS appreciate the work of the club’s organisers, as do the children.
