Real Life Experiences Come Alive for Child Care Students

The Child Care Department continue to bring the outside world into the classroom. On the 31st Oct Sarah Cristinziano visited the Year 12 Child Care Diploma students, with Roma. The students are learning about the physical care needs of children; they interviewed Sarah in relation to sleep, weaning, care of teeth, hair and offering a young child a healthy diet.

On Friday 2 February, qualified midwife, Anna Humphrey visited Year 11 as part of their work on labour and birth. She shared her experience of working in a busy hospital maternity unit and talked about when she went to Africa to help deliver babies last year. She spoke about the difficulties of delivering babies while goats ran around at her feet, with no running water or electricity and only an old-fashioned ear trumpet (pinnard) to listen to the foetal heartbeat.

Anna also spoke about the procedure she follows when a baby is born not breathing. She demonstrated how she begins resuscitation.
