3 Medal Winners British Indoor Rowing Championships

Congratulations go to Matt Stan, James Robson and Olivia Fyfe of Great Marlow School Boat Club (GMSBC), who all won a medal at the British Indoor Rowing Championships National Event. From a tremendous squad of 39 students these were worthy winners.

Eleven of the boat club members were competing for individual trophies and 32 competing in teams. This was the school’s first time competing at this event and the squad organisers were keen to see how GMS’s top individuals stacked up against the rest of the country. All the rowers were a credit to themselves and the school.  Indeed, all our athletes came in the top quartile of their event. Robert Petrea came 7th in a very large Year 11 boys field; James Robson won Silver medal in the Year 9 boys event.  Olivia Fyfe, won Gold with an impressive 506m in just two minutes: she has became British U12 women’s indoor champion. Olivia was some distance ahead of the silver medallist and, had she been competing in the boys’ event, would have won bronze, so a truly impressive result.

In the team relays, GMSBC shone. The KS3 teams raced against some much older students, even so the Year 7 girls’ team performed exceptionally well beating many much older athletes.

The third medal was a glorious Gold for Matt Stan, in the junior adaptive team event: a first for this event in these Championships.
