GB Rowers visit GMS

The staff, who are the bedrock of rowing in GMS, continue to inspire the students by organising events that capture their imagination.

Just last week, 10 GB rowers, all part of the squad preparing for 2020 in Tokyo, came to talk to the GMS squads about the importance of rowing. Karen Bennett and Pete Lambert spoke about their training regimes and some of their Olympic and World Championship experiences. This was followed by an extensive question and answer session. Our students were truly fascinated by all aspects of the rowers’ routines.

Towards the end of the session, the rowers had the chance to talk in small groups to the international representatives; this meant that every student had a chance to talk individually to a successful athlete.

The afternoon was rounded off with the Year 8 and Year 9 rowers joining the senior squad so that everyone could participate in a mass relay challenge with each “crew” being captained by one of the guests from the GB squad.

It was an afternoon to remember.
