Wallingford Long Distance Sculls

Over the weekend, Great Marlow School Boat Club (GMSBC) took the senior rowers to compete at Wallingford, the first major time trial of the 2017/18 season. There were over 500 entries, across all age groups from J15 (Year 10) up to Masters, over 30s. The majority of GMS rowers raced in both the morning division and again in the afternoon, competing over 4.25 km up stream twice. Approximately 18 km of rowing in total amounting to around 40 minutes of flat out racing.

All the GMS rowers performed well. The notable successes are as follows: GMSBC top Boys’ Quad came fourth in the whole event, not far off first place, and beating a number of major opponents such as crews from St Pauls, Dulwich, and Kings College School, not to mention many clubs.

The fast Girls’ Quad came 5th in their WJ18 event, a notable achievement as they are a young crew with three of the four members being in Year 11.

In the singles, special mention goes to Devon Dewinnar who came 2nd in the WJ18 1x , just 6 seconds off the American sculler who came in first, he is expecting to row for USA at the world championships next summer.

Finally, Robert Petrea and Chloe Gosnell, both came third in their respective J16 events.
