GMS on Channel 4

GMS was showcased on Channel 4 ahead of the World Para Athletic Championships. The renowned television company were reporting on the sporting opportunities available for children with disabilities across the UK and our school was shown to be a beacon of best practice. The show can be seen here: –
The film, accessed via the link below, featured a wheelchair student taking part in a PE lesson. PJ Donovan loves his sport. Following his dream to be a sportsman, he is seen in the gym on an ergo and on the Astro-turf.He enjoys basketball, but all sports are attempted.
Participating in sport reduces the gulf between able bodied and those with disabilities, it improves overall fitness and gives confidence to all involved. In the interview clip, PJ Donovan makes the important point that playing sport has generated friendships in a sporting community, which would otherwise be denied to him.
The charity Variety raises awareness of the importance of sport for students with disabilities. More information can be found by clicking here. At present access to sport is patchy across the country. Representatives of the charity make the point that disability sport costs money: a racing wheelchair is far more expensive than a manual one. There is a long way to go before there is a level the playing field.
GMS is a leader in offering that level playing field and we are proud to do so.
