Celebration of Success

On Thursday 13th July, Great Marlow School recognised the extraordinary achievements of their students at the annual Celebration of Success Evening.

The event was attended by over 300 people including the Mayor of Marlow, Cllr Jocelyn Towns, Cllr Chris Funnell, the Chair of Governors Ms Sally Brookes, Sara Campbell, the members of Friends of Great Marlow, the Rotary Club,  the teaching staff of the school, parents, carers and, of course, the prize winning students.

Guests were treated to a medley of songs by the school band followed by an inspirational talk by the guest speaker Mr Mac MacKenney. Mac is an ex-member of the British Army, was a pilot in the Royal Air Force and is now a specialist in planning, training and leading teams on expeditions throughout the world.

In his presentation, Mac talked about his desire to pursue a dream and his refusal to let setbacks or disappointment interfere with achieving success. He treated the audience to tales of travelling to remote, hostile parts of the globe from the freezing wastes of the high Arctic and the thin air of the Himalayas, to the inhospitable desert and stifling jungles.

After Mac’s inspiring words, over 70 students were presented with their prizes and a citation, which explained their excellence in their area of expertise. We are very proud of them all.

Great Marlow School also recognised years of outstanding service to the school by awarding the Jim Campbell prize to six members of staff: Mrs L Phillips, Mrs N Kydd, Mr K Sarsfield, Mr N Todd, Mrs A Wint and Mrs L Watterston.

Finally, guests were invited to mingle and have refreshments in the 6th Form Centre and to admire the stunning student work displayed by the Art Department.

The evening was a great success and we look forward to even more impressive achievements by our students in the year to come.
