Sports’ Award Evening

The Great Marlow School Sports’ Award Evening was held on Friday 7th July in the school hall.  The awards are designed to celebrate the students’ sporting achievements this year, and there were many.

The guest speaker was former Paralympian Judoka, Ian Rose.
He competed at the European Visually Impaired Championships, for Ian this was a dream come true and the beginning of his international sporting career. He went on to win two Paralympic medals, five World Championships medals and four European Championships.

Ian was hoping to represent Paralympics GB at his 6th Games in London but an injury forced him into early retirement in 2011 after a 22 year international career.  As one of Great Britain’s most successful Paralympic Judoka, Ian was a torchbearer and opening ceremony performer for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
It was a fantastic evening much appreciated by the great audience. The success of the event was due to the hard, dedicated work of all the staff, as well as the on-going support of students parents, carers and others.
