Rowing Update

Great Marlow School Boat Club (GMSBC) goes into 2017 with the strongest squad they have had in recent years. No less than seven students are expecting to go to GB trials in February half term.

Over the Christmas holidays, Josh McKensie broke the British record for 30 minutes on the Concept 2 rowing machine for his age group and this remarkable feat is recorded on the C2 website.

The first major event of 2017 is the Rowathon on Tuesday 7th February, where all KS3 participate to help row over 1 million metres. There is an inter-form competition to see which form can raise the most money. Last years winners raised over £560. The funds raised will go towards buying two new double sculls to replace older ones, which are coming to the end of their usefulness.

GMSBC attended Wallingford Head in December. The successes make GMS proud. J18 Coxed 4 won their race. J18, in a team of eight, came 3rd. Third place of J18 was matched by the J16 eight. Finally, the four rowers in the J16 team came in 4th. Well done and thanks go to all participants, trainers, parents and carers who have supported the students.
