First Class Rowing

Great Marlow School Boat Club (GMSBC) headed to Bath over the weekend for the annual trip to Monkton Bluefriars Small Boats Head. Despite the 6:00 am start needed, this is a popular event in our calendar with most students rowing in at least two events. (Each race is 3.5 km, meaning 7 km of rowing per event). While we have always done well at this race, it is safe to say that GMSBC is now the club to beat in all the junior events, and this year’s tally is our highest ever. While in some categories we did not have a great depth of competition, there were some truly notable victories, particularly in the single sculls where the girls won: J18 (Leanna Beswick). 2^nd in J17 (Laura Cook). J16 (Devon De Winnaar) and 2nd (Alice Armes). In J15 Hope Smith. The boys achieved 2^nd in J17 (Alex Hardy), Winner in J16 (Lewis Honey), and in J15 (Robert Petrea).

For those members of staff with long memories, this is the event that sometime ago our boys took on the Eton squad and beat them convincingly. Eton have not returned since.
